5 Steps To Do Before Selling Your Android Device
[dropcap]T[/dropcap]here are a few steps you want to accomplish before you sell you Android device online. The possibility that your whole life is on your phone is pretty high these days as most people can't go two seconds without their phone without feeling like they lost a child. Facebook log in, text messages, and maybe even a zesty photo or two are just some of the reasons to take action before selling your Android device. You also want to squeeze the last drop of value out of your device.
Here are 5 steps you'll want to follow before selling your Android smartphone:
1. Back up your device
Backing up your device is crucial, whether you are switching from Android to Apple or you are just changing phones from an upgrade you don't want to start ALL over do you? No contacts, no photos, no texts, nothing! Transferring over contacts one by one from phone to phone is beyond old school, it's more like the stone age. Do yourself a favor and back up your device before selling it.
2. Factory Reset
Now that you have backed up all your contacts, pictures, and apps. What do you do now? Well you don't want the new owner of your phone to impersonate you do you? Clear your phone of all your personal information and give it a clean slate. Factory resetting your device is quite easy. If you don't know how you can always click here.
3. Remove SIM card
This might seem obvious but remove your SIM card before you send out your device. You would be surprised how many people trade in their phones with their SIM cards still inside. Besides the $10 fee from your carrier to replace your SIM, there is really no reason to send your SIM where all your contacts and call history is solved.
4. Clean it
This also may seem trivial but think about it, when you sell a car, do you wash and detail it before? What if you showed a potential buyer your car with "wash me" written in dirt on your windshield? Common sense would tell you that you could sell your car for more if it was actually cleaned up versus it looking like it just came off the set of Duck Dynasty. This same rule of thumb applies with your phone for a trade-in. Most trade-in sites have options for condition. If you can make your phone look like "excellent condition" vs "good" or "broken", it will make a significant difference with how much your phone is worth at the end of the day.
5. Say Farewell
If you are like most of us, your phone or tablet has become a part of your everyday life, from morning e-mail and Instagram scrolling to watching Youtube videos that make your day. You might feel a slight feeling of detachment after you are departed from your device, but it's ok, you'll get over it. It's almost like when you break up with your significant other, a new love can help replace old feelings.
